I pray this message finds you well.

I want you to think about the question in the subject line- who are you?

​

I ask this question because your identity is at the core of your belief system, how you view yourself, the world, your life, and your relationship with your Lord. Our primary identity shapes and dictates all of the above. If my primary identity is that of a mother, I view my essential role in life as a mother, I interpret value through the lens of motherhood, and I regard my relationship with myself, others, and my Lord through the eyes of ‘a mother’.

What about if I identify primarily as an ethnic group, or a participant in some particular activity, or an attachment to a particular emotion, feeling, behavior pattern? Now, what if I scrapped all that and identified myself primarily as a servant of, and believer in God?
​

Sure, I can be a believer in God who is also a mother, farmer, writer… who is experiencing fear, hope, sadness, happiness… who likes to swim, run, paint, write… but those now become secondary expressions of my essential being as a servant of God.
​

I invite you to examine how you identify and see if shifting your primary way of looking at yourself in turn shifts your experience of life for the better.
