As salaam alaikum Reader,
I pray this message finds you well and full of light and love during this blessed month of mercy.
I saw a headline in the New York Times the other day...or maybe it was the Atlantic...called 'The Masks You'll Be Wearing Next Pandemic'...I wanted to laugh.
Have we agreed to just be afraid?
Is that really what we have come to...living in a state of perpetual fear?
Certainly if we are looking for things to be afraid of there are all manner of horrible things happening in the world. Nefarious corporations and rulers, microscopic bacteria and viruses, and all sorts of plots and plans real and imagined are seemingly lurking waiting to 'get us' at any moment. So, if we are looking to be afraid, we don't have to look far.
Some people believe that God is a venegeful Lord, but our Prophet has told us that God's mercy has superceded His wrath.
And so instead of fear, we can choose peace and mercy. We can choose to live in it, by it, and with it. We can choose to see it everywhere. We can place our hope in it.
This world is temporal, but God in His infinite mercy is, and always was, and always will be. I pray you don't let anyone trap you in a cycle of fear. See hope, love, mercy and the beautiful promises of God in all that you do. The choice in ours, and as this month of Rabi al-Awwal comes to an end i pray you remember this was the month Allah sent his messenger as the mercy to all the worlds. That mercy that is our Prophet is still here, that hope and love is here if we open our eyes to see it and accept it.
