I pray this message finds you well.

My little message today is about reasons or excuses.
​

As I was driving to the dentist this morning, running late, I was already preparing my apology for being late.
​

‘Baby was up late being fussy ‘, ‘kids didn’t get out of bed right when I told them ‘, ‘I’m just so tired… you do know , Alhamdulillah, I have eight children right?’

I made my mind stop the foolishness after that one. Sure, I think most people could agree that I (and probably you too Reader) have so many reasons why we can’t possibly do XYZ… just look at my life ! But you know what… it’s not true. It really just honestly isn’t true. My blessings have never stopped me from getting more blessings Alhamdulillah. You know what has stopped me… scrolling on my phone, not paying attention to the time, indecision, waiting on motivation… those have stopped many a could’ve would’ve should’ve right in their tracks.

Our blessings are never reasons or excuses for our failures , or reasons or excuses as to why we aren’t rising to our fuller potential. Just because it makes sense, just because it’s understandable doesn’t mean it’s the truth.

By the time my parents were 35 years old they had six children. I remember them shampooing peoples rugs as a side job while my sisters and I waited in the car, I remember going with my dad to pick up my mom from the hospital she worked at as an EKG technician and playing with the machines, later she took us on school trips with her when she was a guidance counselor in NYC public schools , my father let us come to work with him at night at the bank, my mother went to night school to finish her masters degree, my father took us to his college campus with him for class. None of their blessings were reasons for them to be stagnant or to not move forward in other areas of their lives that meant a lot to them.

Today I want you to remember that gratitude and blessings always open the door for more gratitude and blessings. Allah says if we are grateful He will increase us. Never make your blessings an excuse for not showing up
