As salaam alaikum Reader,

I pray this message finds you well.

​

We are less than two weeks away from Ramadan, may Allah bless us all to see it, Ameen. I've been thinking alot about Ramadan and taqwa. Allah tells us in the Quran that:

"O you who believe,

the fasts have been enjoined upon you as they were enjoined upon those before you,

so that you may have taqwa" (2:183)

What is it about fasting that gives us taqwa?

​

Taqwa is often defined as fear, awareness and awe. Fasting, more than many other things gives us an opportunity to not only see our complete and utter dependence on Allah, but it also allows us a chance to look ourselves bare in the spiritual mirror.

​

When we fast, and remove from much our lives the busyness of eating and intimacy, we are afforded an opportunity to analyze, scrutinize, and elevate who we are so we can transform into who we are capable of being.

​

Ramadan is a time to take accountability of ourselves. Shaytan is locked up, our desires are being subdued and we get to see some of the ugliness of ourselves. Yes, we all have some ugly. Seeing that ugly is good, because its only by seeing it we can begin to clean, purify, rectify, and beautify ourselves.

​

I pray this Ramadan you take the opportunity to be honest with yourself and your Lord. Look at your weaknesses, and get rid of your excuses. and most important remember and embrace your complete dependence on Allah. Your weakness and dependene is in actuality the key to your reatness, because in it is the secret of your relliance on Allah. SO get accountabile this month, get real this month, and ask ALlah to increase you in taqwa this blessed month.

May Allah allow us to see Ramadan and to benefit from it and may He purify us with it and by it and accept from us our good intentions and our good deeds.
