Did something ever catch you by surprise, and you just keep thinking, 'I did not see that coming'...

Or maybe you know someone who constantly is 'caught by surprise' in life.

Well, surprises do happen from time to time, but most of the time it's not that something wasnt predictable, it's that we were oblivious to the obvious signs around us and so we did not prepare.

My last pregnancy was during Covid. It was a difficult period in my life personally in addition to the drama of the global pandemic we all experienced. Movement outside was restricted and so I stayed at home almost everyday.

Over 40 years old, 9th pregnancy, 7 pregancies with gestational diabetes, high blood pressure after the birth and very stressful first weeks of life with my then almost 3 year old....and what do you know, 'out of no where' I get high blood pressure in my last few weeks of pregnancy and end up with preeclampsia and an emergency c-section.

Totally unexpected.

Do you see what I mean? Life generally gives us a million signs about what is coming down the road, and what outcomes our life choices are inviting or repelling, that is the mercy of Allah in action. Now we also have agency to see, or cover up, those signs. And then to add to it we have the ability to do (or not do) anything about it.

What we dont have control over is how things turn out in the end. Because little problems can spin out into disasters before we know it.

Oh, but you know what else Reader, small wins, good intentions and 'tiny' blessings can magnify and bloom into masterpieces too.

These last few years have been a test, and a warning. We have the time now to get ourselves in order, because only Allah knows how things may spiral downward, or when, ornot.

I for one got the message - freedom to think, and not just consume predetermined opinions is all but dead in the public sphere. Freedom to move is heavily guarded and provisioned upon compliance. Denying your own mind, thoughts, intution and beiefs in favor of group think is the name of the day. I am not okay with that.

Our Prophet (pbuh) told his companions what to do, and how to prepare. The hadith of Sa'ad ibn Abi Waqqas sums it up perfectly. Allah loves the one that is taqi (God concious), ghani (free of wants), khafi (inconspicuous). If you are ready to prepare in silence and submission to your Lord join the Himma Circle.
