Battles and levels of knowing...

As salaam alaikum Reader,

I pray this message finds you well.

I was reflecting on this 'information age' we find ourselves in, and also on the story of our beloved Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and his journey with Khidr (peace be upon him).

We have an injunction to seek knowledge from cradle to crave, and even 'unto China'. And...sometimes it is our desire to know that can stand in the way of our experience of knowing.

Our beloved Musa (pbuh) was given a tremendous weight of a task. He knew that Allah sent him on this journey, he knew that he was supposed to meet Khidr, and he knew that Khidr was a special servant of God. But Khidr (pbuh) had a special, different type of knowledge from God that posed a challenge for Musa (pbuh). In the light of his faith and surety of knowledge about who Khidr was and that he was to be with him, his inability to know and understand what Khidr was doing and why just couldnt settle.

Who could blame him? What was happening didn't make sense. Destroying property, murdering a child, being nice to those who showed no hospitality.... Who wouldnt say, "Pump the brakes, what is really going on here???'

He was in a situation...what he knew had to take a backseat to what he knew...

Its interesting because his mother before him faced a situation not entirely different. She wanted to save her child from Pharoah. The answer she was given was to have a small casket built for him and put him in the Nile River.

What?!?!?!

How, when, where, would theis ever EVER make 'sense'?

What she knew had to take a backseat to what she knew. What she knew for sure was that Allah was guiding her and that the promise of Allah is true.

The tests that this mother and son experienced are not something I think any of us would wish upon ourselves. They do remind us however, that sometimes we have to strip way down to what we know in our heart, soul, bones to be true, and then let that be enough, and let that open the doors and lead the way to more knowledge. Sometimes what we know can get in the way of us acquiring further knowledge, its a tricky thing. Even the best among us have dificulty with this task, and our Prophet Musa (pbuh) himself had difficulty being patient with this process of acquiring the new type of knowledge he was sent to recieve.

May Allah aid us as to see things as they truly are and to let our knowledge humble us and make us able to recieve truth from the source of truth even if its difficult and uncomfortble.

May Allah give us clarity and fortitude on the path to Him.

Wa salaam alikum
